Uptown: Man In Custody After Overnight Armed Robbery

A 54-year-old man is in custody, accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint in Uptown this morning, police said.

The victim was in the 4200 block of North Broadway at 1:45 a.m. when the man reportedly pulled out a gun and took her iPhone.

At the Wilson Red Line station, officers hunting for the man found a discarded leather jacket that matched the description of the offender’s as a northbound train departed the station.

Other officers sped to the Lawrence stop where the suspect was removed from the train and taken into custody.

The woman was treated for an ankle injury and released. We will post an update when charges are approved against the suspect.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
