A two-time convicted robber has been charged with the sexual assault of a woman in Lakeview last Thursday evening.

Terrence Wright, 29, of Markham is charged with one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, police said this afternoon. He is due in bond court today.

Around 9 p.m. last Thursday, Wright followed the 24-year-old woman into a courtyard building in the 3900 block of North Fremont, police said. He attacked her from behind in the building vestibule, placed her in a chokehold, and sexually assaulted the woman with his hand before fleeing from the scene with the woman’s purse, according to an earlier statement by police.

Handprints and smear marks were visible on the vestibule glass as police processed the crime scene early last Friday. Residents of the building reported that they heard the sounds of a struggle in the complex for five to ten minutes before the noise ended.

The victim was transported to Thorek Hospital in good condition with injuries to her face and hands.

About 24 hours after the attack, Wright was arrested for simple battery in the 5700 block of South Kedzie. He has been in custody ever since.

State records show that Wright was sentenced to a pair of concurrent seven-year sentences for two armed robberies in 2007.
