Boystown: Woman beaten with bottle during Sunday morning home invasion

Approximate location of Sunday’s home invasion.

An intruder beat a woman with a wine bottle and smashed a ceramic plate over the victim’s head during a home invasion in the heart of Boystown on Sunday morning. No one is in custody.

Police said the 23-year-old victim was sleeping in her bedroom in the 700 block of West Buckingham around 6:10 a.m. when she suddenly saw an unknown man in her room. The offender then struck the woman in the head with a wine bottle. When the woman screamed and tried to call for help, the man hit her over the head with a porcelain dish from her living room, according to police.

The victim was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with injuries to her head and face.

Investigators found no signs of force being used to enter the woman’s building, police said. The offender fled with the woman’s cell phone and a laptop.

The victim told police the intruder was male, black, tall, skinny, and in his 20’s. He was wearing a black down coat and may have fled the area in a blue older model four-door vehicle that was parked on Buckingham.

Witnesses also saw a possible second offender run from the building and head toward Halsted Street. He was described only as white.

About CWBChicago 4360 Articles
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
