Chicago police are investigating a home invasion reported near Boystown on Monday morning. It was the second home invasion to be reported in Lakeview within hours.

Approximate location of the Grace St. incident

Police said a 39-year-old man was in his apartment in the 600 block of West Grace around 11:10 a.m. when an unknown man knocked and then kicked the door in. Once inside the apartment, the intruder began going through drawers and took an undetermined amount of cash. He fled when the victim sprayed him with mace, according to police. Police said the home invader was armed with a knife, but he did not threaten the victim with it.

Officers responded to the scene after a neighbor reported hearing two men having a confrontation in another apartment.

The offender is described as a black male between 25- and 30-years-old who stands 6-feet tall and weighs about 190 pounds. He has a dark complexion, short hair, and was wearing a black and red jacket with a red hat.

Earlier on Monday, Chicago police kicked down a Lakeview woman’s front door to capture a home invader while the victim hid inside.

The woman called 911 around 4:20 a.m. to report a man entering her coach house in the 900 block of West Fletcher through a front window. She hid inside the home as the man covered his face and searched her home for valuables. She gave police permission to kick down her front door to capture the offender, according to a source. Officers quickly made entry and arrested the intruder.

Charges in the Fletcher incident are expected to be announced on Tuesday.
