An Uptown woman’s vehicle window was shot out Tuesday morning by a gunman who fired from a car that later crashed in Lakeview. A suspect is under police guard at an area hospital.

The 32-year-old woman told police that someone in a dark sedan shot out the back window of her SUV near Montrose and Clarendon around 5:15 a.m. She was not injured.

Less than ten minutes later, witnesses reported seeing a black Toyota Corolla crash into a fence in the 3200 block of North Inner Lake Shore Drive. Two male occupants who appeared to be in their teens ran from the car, a witness said. Patrol officers reported seeing the car traveling at a high rate of speed moments earlier. Uber logos were displayed in the crashed vehicle’s windows, a witness said.

Cops found a gun lying in the grass near the vehicle.

Around 6:30 a.m., more than an hour after the crash, a bloody man walked into the 19th (Town Hall) Police District station at 850 West Addison seeking medical attention. He was taken to Thorek Hospital by ambulance. Documents in the crashed vehicle bear the name of the injured man, according to a police source.

About CWBChicago 4360 Articles
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
