A 29-year-old Michigan man has been extradited to Chicago to face allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman after forcing her out of Berlin nightclub near Boystown in January.

The 23-year-old victim told police that she saw Sahir Arbo looking at her while she was with friends at Big City Tap, 1010 West Belmont. The group then went to Berlin, 945 West Belmont, to continue their evening.

At some point, Arbo grabbed the woman’s arm and forced her out of the bar and into a car where a group of men was waiting, according to prosecutors.

The woman texted her friends because she thought the men were going to rape her, prosecutors said. The friends then called the woman’s phone and spoke with Arbo who said he would take her home.

Instead, the woman was taken to a hotel and sexually assaulted by Arbo, according to prosecutors. Arbo and the other men then drove the woman to her dorm at Columbia College where the crime was reported, according to court records.

An arrest warrant was issued for Arbo after DNA testing of evidence collected from the victim identified him as the man who had sex with her during the alleged assault, prosecutors said.

Arbo has been charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault. Judge Michael Clancy ordered him held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Arbo’s attorney said the victim went with Arbo voluntarily and had consensual sex.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
