Lakeview: Comcast technician, “Sweet Puff Smoke Shop” latest robbery victims

A Comcast technician was robbed at gunpoint as he worked to install service at a Lakeview home on Friday afternoon, according to Chicago police. The man was working on the side of a home in the 1000 block of West Diversey around 3:45 p.m. when the robber approached him from behind and poked a gun in his back.

The robber ordered the cable guy to turn over all of his belongings and then ordered the victim to walk in one direction while the thief fled in the opposite direction with the victim’s tool bag, phone, and wallet.

Police said the victim “froze up” and never saw the offender’s face. No description was available.

• Police are investigating the Sunday evening robbery of Sweet Puff Smoke Shop, 2839 North Clark. The business owner reported that two men entered the store shortly after 7 p.m. and asked for specific merchandise that the owner then placed on the counter.

One of the offenders then ordered the owner not to move while implying that he was armed with a handgun. The two robbers took all of the requested items along with merchandise from the shelves before running away on foot, the victim said.

The two robbers were last seen running into an alley behind a nearby Walmart Neighborhood Market. They are described as two black men between 20- and 25-years-old who stand 5’7” to 5’10” tall. One wore a blue hoodie and carried a black book bag and a blue Under Armour-brand bag. The other wore a black cap, white t-shirt, and tan pants with white and black Nikes.
