The surveillance camera was rolling as the thief threw something through the shop’s side window at 2959 North Lincoln shortly before 5 a.m. Images show the man running to the shattered window and kicking out remaining shards of glass before he yanks a custom bike from the display. Heritage posted the video to their Instagram page later in the morning.

A witness called 911 immediately with a description of the burglar and the distinctive bike he rode away on.

Cops stopped the suspect as he pedaled around the area of Belmont and Racine about 20 minutes later. The witness was brought to the scene to identify the bike and the offender.

Prosecutors tonight charged 46-year-old Ronald Hartley of the 1500 block of West Melrose with one felony count of burglary. He is due in bond court tomorrow.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
