Man shot while driving in Edgewater

File

A 28-year-old man told police that a gunman shot him in the back of the neck while he was stopped for a red light in the 1200 block of West Foster on Thursday evening. No one is in custody.

Police said the man was waiting for the light to change when someone opened fire on him from inside a black Ford SUV around 10:25 p.m. The shooter’s vehicle then fled northbound on Broadway. Two shell casings were found in the street.

“I heard four shots,” a witness told CWBChicago last night. “Then tires screeching as a car sped away,”

The man was able to drive himself to Weiss Memorial Hospital. He was immediately transferred to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where his condition has been stabilized.

Police said overnight that the victim “is known to police,” but they offered no description of the offender.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
