North Center: Woman robbed at gunpoint in Aldi parking lot

A 26-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint as she walked into a North Center grocery store on Thursday evening, police said. No one is in custody.

The victim was walking from her car when a gunman reportedly approached her in the parking lot of Aldi, 2431 West Montrose, around 6:40 p.m. Police said the man demanded the woman’s purse and then drove away in a blue sedan.

Investigators learned that the gunman’s car, a metallic blue Hyundai Elantra, was reported stolen earlier in the day in North Carolina. The vehicle bears a North Carolina license plate that begins with FCY, according to the victim.

The offender is a white or Hispanic man with a tattoo on his face near the left eye who stands 5’6” to 5’9” tall, police said.

Area North detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
