Chicago police are investigating two shootings reported in the Rogers Park neighborhood since Thursday afternoon. No one is in custody for either crime.

Most recently, a 53-year-old woman was shot in the abdomen as she prepared to enter the Jonquil Hotel, 1600 West Jonquil Terrace, at 1:46 a.m. Saturday. Police said they found twelve shell casings directly across the street from where the woman was shot. The victim was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where her condition was stabilized. A department source said the woman “is known to police.”

Also under investigation is the shooting of a 25-year-old man on the basketball courts of Loyola Park, 1200 West Greenleaf, at 4:54 p.m. on Thursday.

Police said a gunman emerged from a vehicle and fired about six shots, striking the victim in the upper left shoulder. The offender’s car, possibly a black Jeep Cherokee or black Chevy Equinox, sped from the scene.

The shooter was described as a black man wearing all black clothing who had a scarf over his face.

An ambulance transported the victim to St. Francis Hospital where he was stabilized.

A police department source said the victim is a known Gangster Disciple who was paroled in January after serving half of a seven-year sentence that he received for two armed robberies.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
