Lakeview: Woman fights off sexual assault by kneeing attacker in the face, police say

A 32-year-old woman fought off a sexual assault by a man she met overnight in a Lakeview bar, police said. The offender remains at large.

Police said the victim was in a bar in the 600 block of West Diversey when the man—who claimed to be homeless—told her that he wanted to show her where he lives. The woman said she followed the offender into a nearby alley where he attacked her and tried to pull down her pants around 4:20 a.m. today, July 5th.

The woman put an end to the attempted sexual assault by grabbing the offender’s head and kneeing him in the face, police said. He was last seen heading southbound on Clark Street.

An employee of a nearby coffee shop called 911 when the victim knocked on the store’s front door and asked for help after the attack.

Police described the offender as a 5’7”-tall Hispanic man who was wearing a white t-shirt with blue jeans.

Officers transported the woman to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment.

About CWBChicago 4358 Articles
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
