More robberies reported near Sedgwick Brown Line station; FIVE muggings on the same block in one week

Monday’s community alert from Chicago police about a string of robberies near the Sedgwick Brown Line station has been updated to include two more muggings that were reported last week.

That brings the total number of incidents since July 14th to five.

In addition to three robberies announced Monday, police now say a robbery on the afternoon of July 16th and another on the evening of July 17th are part of the pattern.

Three robberies were listed in the previous alert: one on the afternoon of July 14th and two on July 21st during evening hours.

All five muggings involved two men who forcibly took phones from victims’ hands on the 1500 block of North Sedgwick. A gun was displayed by the robbers during one of the July 21st robberies, police said.

The offenders are two black men between 18- and 25-years-old who stand 5’8” to 6-feet tall and weigh about 175 pounds, according to the alert.

Anyone with information about the crimes may contact Area Central detectives at 312-747-8380.

Investigators issue an alert when they believe a person or group is responsible for a crime pattern.
