Three men who robbed a victim in the heart of River North last Friday were caught because police officers happened to be handling another incident just steps away, according to police records.

Cops had just wrapped up an unrelated matter in the 500 block of North Dearborn when a 39-year-old man approached them around 3:30 a.m. to report that he had just been robbed. The victim said three men assaulted him and took his property—then, he pointed to the alleged offenders, who were still on the scene, according to a police spokesperson.

David D. Curtis, 22, David ElijahNelson, 24, and 20-year-old Exxon John Boy Landers are each charged with one count of felony robbery. They were all ordered held without bail.

The men are due back in court on Friday.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
