A serial Peeping Tom may be on the prowl on the North Side according to a Lakeview woman who discovered the man pleasuring himself outside her window on Saturday night.
It’s at least the fifth time that the woman has been targeted by the man, but last night was the first time that she realized the full extent of what he’s been doing.
The woman has previously heard the sounds of a pornographic movie outside her window. But, she assumed that her neighbor was simply playing his videos too loudly.
On Saturday, though, she learned that the serial Peeping Tom brings porn with him and pleasures himself while looking through windows and playing an erotic video on his phone or another device.
A CPD spokesperson today confirmed that officers met with the woman on the 3500 block of North Fremont around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. The 28-year-old victim called 911 after seeing an unknown man “playing an inappropriate video outside her apartment window,” according to the spokesperson.
Police said a 32-year-old male neighbor also saw the offender pleasuring himself outside the woman’s apartment window.
“He’s been climbing over a fence and masturbating to porn outside her window,” according to a relative of the victim.
“This is a known violator who started in Uptown. He has now moved on to Wrigleyville and Lakeview,” according to the relative. Police reportedly believe the man targets women whom he sees returning to their homes. Saturday’s victim had been home just 20 minutes when she discovered the man outside her apartment.
“They know he usually is dressed in all black and drives a gold minivan that he parks a block or two away. He can run to it if he gets caught,” the relative said.
Police did not have a description of the offender on Sunday. The Wrigleyville victim said the man was dressed in all black and wore a black hoodie. But other details such as his race and facial features were not discernible.
Last night, the man was apparently doing his thing while lying in a small gangway next to the victim’s window. That’s where the neighbor saw him, prompting the offender to run to the rear of the property, jump a fence, and escape into the west alley of Fremont Street, according to the victim’s relative.
For now, Saturday’s victim is going to be staying with the relative we spoke with.
“We are going to try to work with her landlord to find a different unit that’s not on the main floor, or break the lease entirely,” he said.
