Man slashed with knife in Lakeview

Approximate location of the attack.

Charges are pending against an offender who police say attacked a man with a knife in Lakeview late Monday morning.

The victim, 42, was walking on the 900 block of West George at 11:58 a.m. when the attacker approached him from behind and cut him in the face with a knife, according to a police department spokesperson.

“I saw [the offender], but thought nothing of it, and then did not hear him coming up behind me until it was too late,” the victim told neighbors in an email.

Officers transported the victim to nearby Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center to be treated for a five-inch cut to the side of his face.

Other cops searched the area and detained a suspect on the 3100 block of North Sheffield a short time later. Police found a steak knife nearby. Police said the detained man, 26, was later identified by the victim.

“I’m ok, fortunately, but he did cut me across my face and it was pretty random,” the victim said. “A couple of good Samaritans in the neighborhood stopped to help and we called the police.”

“My learning,” wrote the victim, “was not to have both earbuds in.”

CWBChicago will post an update when charges are finalized.
