Man shot during brawl near Mag Mile

One person was shot and another was struck in the head with a crowbar during a brawl near the Magnificent Mile early Sunday morning. At least one offender is in custody.

A 20-year-old man flagged down patrol officers near Chicago and Wabash avenues shortly before 4 a.m. and reported that he had been shot in the hand. Other officers detained a group of three men who were seen running from the area.

Police said the victim and the offenders had been in a fight on the first block of West Chicago when a man pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the hand. The victim struck the 25-year-old shooter in the head with a crowbar during the brawl, according to a police department source.

Both men were transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police reportedly found a crime scene consisting of shell casings, blood, and a crowbar at 48 West Chicago. An unspecified weapon was also recovered, according to the spokesperson.
