Bicyclist interrupts sexual assault on lakefront path

Police said a man jumped and tried to sexually assault a woman along the lakefront trail near Foster Beach on Saturday evening, but the offender stopped the attack and ran away when a bicyclist pulled up on the scene.

The victim, 34, said she was walking southbound near the beach fieldhouse when the offender grabbed her from behind and forced her to the ground around 7:20 p.m. He tried to remove the victim’s clothing and exposed his genitals before the woman’s screams for help drew the attention of a passing bicyclist.

As the biker approached the scene, the offender ran southbound on the lakefront path from just north of Foster.

Police said the attacker is a black male between 18- and 20-years-old who stands 5’10” to 6-feet tall. He is clean-shaven and wore a black hoodie, sweatpants, and a black t-shirt.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
