Woman carjacked in Roscoe Village overnight

An armed man carjacked a woman in Roscoe Village overnight after approaching her to ask for directions, police said.

The victim, 27, told police that the offender walked up to her on the 3300 block of North Seeley at 4:08 a.m. and pretended to be lost. During the conversation, the man pulled out a handgun and demanded the woman’s phone and her car, police said.

Taken was a blue 2018 Honda Fit bearing a license plate that beings with AE391. It was last seen heading northbound on Seeley.

CPD license plate reading technology detected the car traveling in the Grand Crossing neighborhood about 30 minutes after the carjacking.

Police said the robber is a black man in his early 20’s who stands about 5’9” tall. He was wearing a ski mask and all dark clothing.

The woman was not injured. Area North detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
