Police are investigating after a group of people pushed a pregnant woman to the ground and robbed her in Lakeview on Sunday evening. No one is in custody.
The victim was on the 700 block of West Wellington around 5:50 p.m. when a man pushed her down to the ground and took her phone. She said the man was with two children, one of whom appears about 13-years-old.
“He didn’t just push her to the ground,” a witness told CWBChicago on Monday. “He actually struck her several times in the head. He took her bags and phone but her friend maced him and snatched the bags back.”
“She protected her stomach instead of her head and it was so sad to see.”
“A security officer from the shopping complex” on Clark Street “watched the whole thing go down and didn’t intervene one bit,” the woman said.
The group split up after the mugging, with two offenders running southbound on Clark Street and two running eastbound on Wellington.
An ambulance transported the woman to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The primary offender is described as a black male in his late 30’s who stands about 6’3” tall. He wore a red jacket and red pants. He was with a white female who wore a black coat and stands about 5’3” tall and two teenagers: one a black male who’s about 16-years-old and a black female with a ponytail who’s about 13-years-old.
