One in custody after woman dies while “wrestling” with man in Uptown apartment

Update 8:46 AM — The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the woman as Laura Lonigro, who lived in the apartment.

Chicago police are conducting a death investigation after a 51-year-old woman reportedly died while “wrestling” with a 28-year-old man in an Uptown apartment on Saturday morning. The man is in police custody and charges are pending, according to a CPD spokesperson.

Officers responded to a fifth floor apartment on the 900 block of West Carmen at 11:27 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that the woman was unresponsive and appeared dead.

The first cops on the scene found the woman on the floor and administered CPR until fire department personnel arrived and took over.  Doctors pronounced the woman dead at Weiss Hospital a short time later.

The 28-year-old told police that he and the woman were wrestling when she lost consciousness and died, the CPD spokesperson said.

Police took the man into custody for questioning. Charges are pending as investigators await information from the medical examiner, according to the spokesperson.
