Police recovered a handgun, 20 pounds of marijuana, cash, and a stolen car after they responded to a complaint about people partying without maintaining social distancing in a Lakeview garage early Sunday, according to CPD. The partiers rented the property via Airbnb, according to a source.
No charges were filed in the case as of late Sunday night.
Officers responded to calls of 15 men failing to maintain a six-foot distance from each other while hanging out in a garage on the 1900 block of West Wolfram at 12:55 a.m., according to police. One 911 caller said she thought she saw a gun in the garage.
She was apparently correct.
Chicago police said officers found a handgun with an extended magazine along with 20 pounds of pot in the garage as they tried to disperse the group. Cops also impounded a stolen white Jeep Grand Cherokee that was parked outside the garage.
Last Monday, police in the River North neighborhood recovered a backpack filled with narcotics and cash after they broke up a high-rise party on the 500 block of North State.
As with Sunday’s incident in Lakeview, police confiscated the materials for investigation, but no charges were filed because officers could not immediately determine who possessed the items.
