Uptown: “Suffocated” woman in critical condition, husband detained after domestic altercation

An Uptown woman is in critical condition after she was reportedly “suffocated” during a domestic altercation Tuesday afternoon, according to police and a source

Around 2:50 p.m., the 26-year-old woman’s husband told a 911 operator that he thought his wife had died in their apartment on the 1200 block of West Carmen. He began administering CPR.

Fire department personnel transported the unconscious woman to Weiss Hospital in critical condition. Police took a suspect into custody for questioning.

Officially, a police spokesperson said only that the woman was “in critical condition after a domestic-related altercation.” However, a source with knowledge of the case said the woman had been “suffocated.”

Detectives and patrol officers executed a search warrant at the couple’s home around 3 a.m. Wednesday.
