Woman carjacked in Wrigleyville this morning; charges pending

Charges are pending after a woman was carjacked in Wrigleyville on Saturday morning, police said.

The victim, age 41, told police she was making a delivery when the offender produced a handgun and stole her car on the 3800 block of North Sheffield around 7:05 a.m.

Around the same time, a passer-by called 911 to report that a vehicle crashed into a tree on the corner of Addison and Racine streets. Police determined that the crashed vehicle belongs to the carjacking victim.

Officers quickly reviewed CPD surveillance video of the car crash and reported seeing the driver walk away from the scene. They dispatched a description of the offender to officers in the field and a suspect was soon found walking near the intersection of Southport Avenue and Irving Park Road.

Police engaged the man in a brief foot chase and saw him throw a handgun over a fence on the 4000 block of North Clark. He was arrested nearby.

The victim identified the 22-year-old man as the person who carjacked her minutes earlier, according to police. Officers recovered the handgun.
