Carjacker batters, robs motorist in Edgewater

An armed man battered, robbed, and carjacked a driver in the Edgewater neighborhood Thursday night, police said. No arrests have been made.

The offender attacked the victim from behind as the man got out of his car on the 5800 block of North Kenmore around 10:35 p.m., according to Chicago police spokesperson Kellie Bartoli.

He pushed the 32-year-old victim, demanded money, and struck him on the top of his head with a weapon that may have been a handgun, Bartoli said. The robber went through the victim’s pockets, took his wallet, phone, and car keys, and then drove away with the man’s car.

According to the victim, the robber is a black male between 18- and 30-years-old who stands 5’10” to 6-feet tall, and weighs 160 to 175 pounds. He reportedly wore a black ski mask and a black puffy coat.

The stolen car is a blue 2019 Toyota Camry bearing a license plate that begins with BG385.

Area 3 detectives are investigating the case.
