A home invader battered residents of a Logan Square home Thursday afternoon, just minutes after he tried to break into another apartment nearby, Chicago police said.

Area 5 detectives are detailing the crimes in a community alert.

The offender first tried to crawl through the rear window of a woman’s home on the 2000 block of North Sawyer around 12:20 p.m., according to a CPD report. He rand from the scene after she spotted him.

About 20 minutes later, the same offender entered through the rear of a home on the 2100 block of North Mozart, according to the police alert. He battered occupants of the home who confronted him, implied he had a gun, and stole the victims’ property, police said.

Detectives said the suspect is a black male between 20- and 30-years-old who stands 5’7” to 5’9” tall and weighs 150-160 pounds. He has short black hair and wore a black windbreaker.

Police encouraged area residents to tell their neighbors about the crimes and to ensure surveillance camera systems are working.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
