Bicyclist, 54, killed by “stray bullet” in Rogers Park; Second man injured

A 54-year-old man is dead, apparently the unintended victim of a shooting in Rogers Park overnight. Another man, age 27, is injured.

Police said the younger man was riding in a car that pulled over so its occupants could talk to a group of men in the 7600 block of North Marshfield around 2:57 a.m. Tuesday. The group opened fire on the victim’s car, striking him once in the right thigh, according to police. That victim later showed up at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston and was listed in fair condition.

Another bullet struck 54-year-old Tommie Walker as he rode a bicycle nearby, according to information provided by CPD and a source. Police said Walker appeared to be an innocent victim who was not affiliated with the other men. Walker was pronounced dead at St. Francis.

The younger victim has a history of arrests for minor crimes in Rogers Park and Uptown, according to police records.

Investigators found about 10 shell casings on Marshfield. Glass was shot out of at least one storefront on the 1500 block of West Howard. No one is in custody. Area 3 detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
