A burglar got more than he bargained for Friday evening when a homeowner confronted him with a machete in Lakeview. The offender managed to slip away from police, but cops have been circulating a photo of the prowler.

It all started when the victim walked into his home on the 1300 block of West Roscoe and discovered the burglar around 8:30 p.m., according to a police report. The homeowner grabbed a machete and ran the burglar out of the house.

About ten minutes later, the same burglar apparently tried to break into a woman’s third-floor home in the 3200 block of North Racine. But she scared him off and called 911.

Police eventually spotted the burglar walking in an alley on the 1200 block of West Roscoe, but they lost him on the 1200 block of West Newport after a brief foot chase.

Cops circulated a surveillance photo of the suspect, who’s described as a White man in his 30’s or 40’s with blond or brown hair who stands about six-feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds. He wore skinny jeans with a white t-shirt, which he removed after escaping from the home on Roscoe.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
