Man shot on Uptown street corner early Saturday

A man is in good condition after being shot on an Uptown street early Saturday, police said. No one is in custody.

The victim, age 27, was in the 600 block of West Lawrence when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot around 12:20 a.m., according to initial information from Chicago police. He told investigators that he did not know where the gunshots came from or who shot him, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing a white SUV speed westbound on Lawrence after the shooting.

Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim’s right leg to reduce blood loss from the gunshot wound. An ambulance transported the man to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Officials said the victim has a history of contact with Chicago police.

Area Three detectives are investigating.
