Police are investigating a pair of carjackings that unfolded in under 45 minutes late Sunday and early Monday. One of the crimes took place at a busy South Loop service station.
A 20-year-old man stepped out of his car while his 18-year-old passenger remained sleeping in the vehicle at BP, 1221 South Wabash, around 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.
That’s when an armed man got into the 2018 Porsche Macan and drove onto Roosevelt Road — with the teen still in the passenger seat, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a CPD spokesperson.
A short time later, the carjacker pulled out a handgun and ordered the 18-year-old to get out of the car, Tannehill said. He complied, and the gunman continued driving onto southbound Lake Shore Drive.
The stolen Porsche bears a vanity Blackhawks license plate, according to CPD records.
Then, around 12:05 a.m. Monday, a man told police that two offenders carjacked him outside a boutique hotel near State and 26th Street. The victim said two men wearing black hoodies and face masks implied they had a gun and took his 2019 Chevy Impala with Alabama plates.
No one is in custody for either carjacking. Police have not publicly connected the two cases.
