Man shot, seriously wounded, on Near North Side

A 22-year-old man was seriously wounded Thursday evening in a shooting on the Near North Side, police said. The shooting unfolded a little more than two hours after a 5-month-old and two adults were shot about a half-mile away.

Police said the man was sitting in a parked car on the 600 block of West Division when someone fired shots at him from a black SUV around 9:15 p.m.. The victim was struck multiple times in the stomach and once in the leg, according to CPD. An ambulance transported the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The shooting scene is located about a block from the 18th District police station.

According to police records, the victim has been arrested in the Old Town and Near North neighborhoods several times since he became an adult. In 2019, he was charged armed robbery with a firearm after police arrested him at the exact same street address where he was shot last night. The status of the robbery case was not immediately available.

Area Three detectives are investigating the shooting.

Old Town shooting

A 5-month-old boy and two adults are in good condition after they were shot by a group of men who got out of a vehicle on the 1400 block of North Hudson around 7 p.m. Thursday, according to police. 

Witnesses told police the victims were standing on a sidewalk when a vehicle pulled up, and a group of men got out and opened fire. 

The baby was driven to Lurie Children’s Hospital along with a 19-year-old man. Police said the boy suffered a graze wound to his right eye, and the 19-year-old, who later transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, was shot in his shoulder. The third victim, a 25-year-old man, was being treated at Northwestern for a gunshot wound to the back of his thigh.

A car carrying suspected shooters fled the scene and collided with a police squad car near Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive shortly after the shooting.

Officers pursued the vehicle and arrested two of its occupants after they bailed out and ran near the 3900 block of South Princeton, according to a preliminary CPD statement. Two weapons have been recovered at the Princeton scene.
