Charges are pending after a 25-year-old man was shot on State Street in the heart of the Loop on Saturday evening. The victim is in good condition.
Police said an argument between two men escalated until one of them took out a handgun and shot the other one on the first block of South State around 8:40 p.m.
The victim told police that the gunman, who was reportedly wearing a security uniform, worked as a guard at a nearby retail store. Witnesses reported seeing the gunman flee into a nearby subway station.
Cops searched the Red Line downtown and found a man who matched the shooter’s description at the Chicago-State station around 9 p.m. The man was carrying a gun, according to police.
An ambulance transported the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his leg.
Area Three detectives are investigating and charges are pending, police said.
Saturday’s shooting victim is the seventh person shot in the Loop so far this year. Only three people were shot in the neighborhood during all of last year and two of those were in self-defense.
