“Friend” robs and shoots man in Old Town

Police said a man was shot by an acquaintance who robbed him near the victim’s Old Town home late Thursday. The offender remains at large.

The victim, age 29, invited the friend into his home on the 1700 block of North Sedgwick, police said. Once inside, the offender reportedly took a purse and walked out of the house around 11:40 p.m., according to CPD.

Police said the gunman shot the victim twice in the foot when the man came outside to confront him about the purse. The offender then fled southbound on Sedgwick. Two shell casings were found at the scene.

An ambulance transported the man to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
