Lakeview: Man robs 11-year-old boy of his new mountain bike

A grown man displayed a weapon and robbed an 11-year-old boy of his new bike in Lakeview on Sunday afternoon, according to a CPD report.

The boy was riding his bike on the 1300 block of West Roscoe when the man approached him, displayed what appeared to be a knife, and demanded his bike around 3:40 p.m., said Officer Ronald Westbrooks, a CPD spokesperson. Police said the boy, who was not injured, complied and ran from the scene while the man pedaled away with his new bike.

Taken was an adult-sized mountain bike that is mostly blue with a small amount of orange highlighting. The robber is described as a Black male in his 20’s or 30’s who wore a black hoodie and face mask.

Police were in the area looking for a burglary offender when the boy’s family waved them down to report the robbery.

In the burglary case, a would-be burglar threw a gardening paver through a family’s first-floor window on the 3300 block of North Lakewood. The man tried to crawl into the family’s home, but he ran away when they saw people were home, according to police.

While police would not formally connect the two crimes, the offenders had similar appearances.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
