A 38-year-old man is in serious condition after being shot in the Albany Park neighborhood Friday night. He is the 11th person shot in the 17th (Albany Park) Police District in the past week, according to CPD records.
A police source said the escalating violence is connected to a cycle of shootings and retribution between the Latin Kings and Spanish Gangster Disciples street gangs.
The man was found in the driver’s seat of his Jeep on the 2700 block of West Agatite around 10:15 p.m. after police received calls of shots fired in the area. He had gunshot wounds to his head, chest, and arm, police said. An ambulance transported him to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.
Bullet holes were visible on the passenger side of the man’s SUV. Police said the victim does not appear to have previous contact with CPD. Investigators were trying to determine if the shooting was retaliation for another shooting earlier in the night or, potentially, a case of mistaken identity.
In the earlier shooting, an 18-year-old man was shot in the chest and back on the 4100 block of West Lawrence around 6:45 p.m., according to police.
