West Loop burglar targeting bikes in condo buildings, cops say

Police are warning about a burglar who is targeting condo building garages in the West Loop. 

Since August 22, the thief has used a pry tool to break into at least seven condo building garages in the neighborhood, according to a community alert from Area Three detectives. Once inside, the man steals bicycles and escapes. The break-ins were reported:

  • in the 1100 block of West Washington at 5:30 a.m. on August 22
  • in the 1300 block of West Madison at 2 a.m. on August 28
  • in the 1300 block of West Madison at 1 p.m. on August 28
  • in the 1100 block of West Washington sometime on September 4-5
  • in the 1100 block of West Madison at 6 a.m. on September 6
  • at 20 North Racine sometime on September 6-7
  • in the 1200 block of West Washington between September 9 and 12

Police said the suspect is a Black male between 50- and 60-years-old who stands 5-feet to 5’6” tall and weighs 170 to 190 pounds.
