Wicker Park: Armed man orders restaurant to “gimme the bread”

A vague, yet armed robber got away with a nice stack of cash when he told a Wicker Park restaurant employee to “gimme the bread” early Wednesday.

The man walked into a restaurant on the 1600 block of West North Avenue at 12:50 a.m. and displayed a handgun, according to a CPD spokesperson. The Hollywood Grill diner and The Hat hot dog stand are located across the street from each other on that block.

“Gimme the bread,” he reportedly barked to a 21-year-old man who was working the register. The employee handed over the eatery’s cash register contents. No actual bread was taken.

The offender is described as a bald Black male between 40- and 50-years-old whos stands 5’8” to 5’10” tall and 150-160 pounds, according to CPD spokesperson Kellie Bartoli. He was last seen walking southbound on Ashland in a light blue jogging suit.

Area Five detectives are investigating the hold-up.
