A man was shot Thursday during an apparent botched robbery inside a Loop apartment, according to a CPD report. Later, in an unrelated incident, a female security guard was stabbed repeatedly in her face nearby. The crimes were not random, according to initial information in CPD reports.
Failed robbery
Police responded to a report of a robbery in progress inside an apartment on the 1001 block of South State around 1:45 p.m. People in the apartment told police that an acquaintance pulled out a gun and tried to get some money that he believed a 28-year-old woman owed him.
But a struggle for control of the weapon broke out, and the offender, age 27, wound up being shot in his left hand, according to preliminary info from a CPD report. Officers went to the suspect’s home on the Near South Side and found him injured. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition. No other injuries were reported.
A shell casing was recovered from the State Street apartment. Police took several people in for questioning as they tried to sort out all of the details.
Woman stabbed
A 22-year-old security guard was repeatedly stabbed during an altercation inside a parking garage on the 1100 block of South Canal around 5:10 p.m.
She told police the mother of one of her children began fighting with her in the garage and then used a sharp object to stab the victim repeatedly in her face and head, according to a CPD report.
The offender fled in a car while the victim was taken to Stroger Hospital. Her condition has been stabilized, police said.
Area Three detectives are investigating both cases.
