Cops warn of child luring attempt in Lincoln Square

Police are warning Lincoln Square residents about a child luring attempt near Jacob Playlot Park on Saturday morning.

An 11-year-old girl was walking near the park in the 4700 block of North Virginia when a man on a bike approached and asked her to come with him around 10:30 a.m., according to a CPD alert issued Thursday.

When the girl did not comply with the man’s request, he rode up on his bike with his arm extended as if he was trying to grab her, police said. The girl turned and ran to her mother, who was a short distance away.

After the incident, the offender fled eastbound down an alley and then southbound on Washtenaw Avenue, according to police.

CPD described the man as White, possibly of Indian descent, about 50-years-old, with gray hair that’s balding on top, clean-shaven, medium build, wearing a black and blue long-sleeve flannel shirt with dark blue jeans. He rode a 10-speed bike that has a dark frame with yellow tape on its handlebars.

Anyone with information about the man can contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8266 regarding case number JD-394805.
