A suspect is in custody this morning after he allegedly shot his own friend in Edgewater overnight. The victim is expected to be OK. According to court records, the victim and the shooter have twice been arrested together for separate alleged crimes in the Edgewater area since summertime. In September, they were arrested after police allegedly caught them breaking into an Edgewater apartment building together — for the second time.
The shooting victim, age 49, walked into Weiss Hospital around 1 a.m. Friday for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right foot. He told police the shooting took place on the 1000 block of West Bryn Mawr around 12:30 a.m.
According to the victim, he got into an altercation with the offender who then pulled out a handgun and fired three shots, striking him once in the right foot.
Police searched the area for the gunman and took him into custody a short time later. Officers recovered a handgun from the suspect, police said. Two shell casings were found at the shooting scene.
The two men are free on bail after being charged with burglary, theft, and other charges for a pair of residential burglaries they allegedly committed together in Edgewater earlier this year.
CWBChicago will update this story if charges are filed against the alleged gunman.
