Road rage shooting leaves man critically wounded in Edgewater

A man is in critical condition after he was shot in an apparent road rage incident near the terminus of Lake Shore Drive in Edgewater on Saturday night.

Police said the victim, age 38, was driving when someone fired shots at him from another vehicle on the 1000 block of West Hollywood around 10:51 p.m. A witness told police that the two vehicles’ occupants appeared to be engaged in a dispute as they traveled northbound on Lake Shore Drive a few minutes before the shooting.

The victim, who crashed his car after being shot, was unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds when police arrived. An ambulance transported him to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition, police said. Five shell casings were found about 100 yards east of the crash scene.

CPD surveillance cameras reportedly captured images of the gunman’s vehicle, a silver or gray Dodge Charger that has a black stripe down the middle with an orange stripe in the center.

Area Three detectives are investigating. No one is in custody.
