Three armed robberies, including a carjacking, unfolded in about 30 minutes across Lakeview and nearby Lincoln Park early Tuesday. Police think at least two of the crimes were committed by the same crew. No arrests have been made.
Most recently, a 33-year-old man was attacked and carjacked moments after he parked his car in the 900 block of West Diversey at 1:15 a.m., according to CPD spokesperson Kellie Bartoli.
He told police a car pulled up next to him, and the carjacker got out of the back seat, pointed a gun at him, and demanded his property. The victim tried to run away, but the offender caught up with him, and the men began to fight, Bartoli said.
During the struggle, the offender managed to take some of the victim’s property, and he then fled with the man’s black Honda CR-V. According to Bartoli, an ambulance transported the victim to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he received some stitches.
About ten minutes before the carjacking, two men pulled a gun on the clerk at a convenience store about five blocks from where the hijacking took place. The offenders threatened the employee but did not take anything from the store at 2757 North Pine Grove, according to a CPD report.
The robbery spree began around 12:40 a.m. when two offenders tried to rob Taco Burrito House, 3939 North Broadway. One robber grabbed an employee by the shirt, displayed a firearm, and demanded money, Bartoli said. But the robbers then fled without taking anything.
According to the restaurant workers, the offenders were two Black males between 18- and 20-years-old who wore blue surgical masks. The suspects fled south on Broadway in a midsize SUV that has a black roof and a red body, according to Bartoli.
The restaurant employees, ages 19 and 20, were not injured.
Bartoli said the carjacking victim described the robber who confronted him only as a Black male. The convenience store worker said the offenders were two Black males in their 20’s. One wore a green jacket with blue jeans and black shoes. The other wore a blue jacket, blue jeans, and black shoes. Both wore blue surgical masks.
Area Three detectives are investigating all three incidents.
