A ride-hail service driver was carjacked at gunpoint while waiting for a passenger in Lincoln Park on Saturday evening, police said. He is the second Uber driver to be carjacked while waiting for a passenger in the Near North (18th) Police District since Wednesday.
Police said a 37-year-old ride-hail driver was waiting in his car for a passenger when the two carjackers got into his back seat on the 400 block of West Roslyn around 10:45 p.m.
The offenders reportedly put a handgun to the man’s head and ordered him to turn over his keys. When he complied, they jumped into the front seat and drove away with his gray 2016 Lexus ES300, said Officer Michael Carroll, a CPD spokesperson. They also got away with the victim’s wallet and phone, according to Carroll.
On Wednesday evening, a 32-year-old Uber driver was carjacked at gunpoint while waiting for a passenger on the 1500 block of North Wells in Old Town. That victim was sitting in his Nissan Sentra when an armed carjacker walked up and ordered him out of his vehicle at gunpoint at 10:13 p.m., said Officer Ronald Westbrooks.
Westbrooks said Wednesday’s carjacker was a Black male in his 20’s who stands about 5’8” tall and weighs 150 pounds. The man was wearing a blue hoodie and a black facemask.
