Armed carjacking, robbery reported minutes apart in Lincoln Park

Police are investigating an armed carjacking and an attempted robbery that unfolded 20 minutes apart in Lincoln Park on Sunday night. No one is in custody.

Around 11:15 p.m., a 38-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man were sitting in a car on the 400 block of West Wrightwood when two men emerged from a passing black SUV. One of the offenders tried to rob the man of his bag, police said. The woman sped away before the robbery succeeded, and the offenders fled, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a CPD spokesperson.

The victims said both robbers were Black males. One of the men wore a puffy red and white jacket.

About 20 minutes later, two men got out of a black SUV and forced a woman from her car in the 600 block of West Kemper, Alfaro said. The woman gave the men her valuables, and one of the men drove away in her car. She was not injured.

She said the robbers were two Black men, one of whom is skinny, six-feet tall, and wore a gray ski mask with a dark hoodie.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
