Armed robberies reported minutes apart in Wicker Park, West Town

Police are investigating a pair of armed robberies that unfolded minutes apart Wednesday evening in Wicker Park and West Town. The same men may have committed the hold-ups.

First, an armed man displayed a handgun and demanded a 32-year-old woman’s property as she walked to her car in the 1600 block of North Ada around 6:53 p.m., said Officer Steve Rusanov, a CPD spokesperson.

The woman tried to run away, but the offender pushed her to the ground and robbed her. He then fled northbound on Ada, Rusanov said.

About fifteen minutes later, a man was reportedly robbed at gunpoint near his home in the 1700 block of North Paulina. The offender stepped out of the passenger seat of a vehicle moments before robbing him, the man said.

Both victims said a black SUV, possibly an older Chevy Equinox, was involved in the robberies.

Police did not provide a description of the offenders. Area Five detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
