Burglary alert issued for area near DePaul University

A burglar is targeting garages and residential storage areas near DePaul University’s campus in Lincoln Park, according to a bulletin from Area Three detectives.

Police usually release community alerts when they believe a person or group is responsible for a series of crimes.

The burglar is using force to break into garages and storage rooms to steal property during overnight and early morning hours, according to the alert.

Incidents were reported in:

  • the 900 block of West Altgeld at 2 a.m. on November 12
  • the 2500 block of North Burling at 1:15 a.m. on November 15
  • the 900 block of West Montana at 6:15 a.m. on November 18
  • the 800 block of West Fullerton at 12:33 a.m. on November 18

Police encouraged residents to tell their neighbors about the crime pattern; to ensure security systems work properly, and to secure common areas of multi-unit buildings.
