Man fatally shot in Rogers Park

Update November 10 — The victim has been identified as Ryan Bost, a former stand-out basketball star at Evanston High School.

A 20-year-old man was fatally shot when a verbal altercation turned violent in Rogers Park Monday evening, police said. No arrests have been made.

The victim was sitting in the back seat of a car on the 6700 block of North Newgard when a man walked up and shot him in the chest after “an exchange of words” shortly after 6 p.m., according to CPD and dispatch records. He arrived at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston about 20 minutes later in a private car that was driven by a friend. Doctors pronounced him dead a short time later.

Police were searching the area for surveillance cameras that might offer more information about what happened.

Officers searched the area for a potential suspect described as a Black male wearing a blue tracksuit who had gold Beats-brand headphones around his neck. According to police on the scene, that man was last seen heading eastbound in an alley from Newgard.

Area Five detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
