Man found fatally stabbed in Loop hotel, police say

Updated 9:37 p.m. — The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as 37-year-old Samuel Ketchum. A ruling on the cause and manner of death is pending.

Detectives are conducting a death investigation after a man was found fatally stabbed in a Loop hotel’s office area early Saturday, police said. The man’s wounds may have been self-inflicted, according to preliminary information from CPD.

Police and fire personnel responded to the Virgin Hotel, 203 North Wabash, around 2:23 a.m. after someone discovered the man’s body in a lower level office area. Cops found the man with stab wounds to his chest, according to CPD. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not yet determined the man’s name or age. They found his possessions and possible narcotics in a lower level stairwell.
