Police are investigating after a 31-year-old woman was battered and robbed while walking in Roscoe Village on Saturday evening.
The victim was in the 3400 block of North Wolcott when two masked men pushed her against a wall and slapped her face repeatedly around 8:07 p.m., said Officer Hector Alfaro, a CPD spokesperson.
Both men took the woman’s green leather purse and fled. The victim was not seriously injured, Alfaro said.
She described the offenders as two Hispanic men wearing dark clothing who were last seen heading westbound on Newport Avenue in a dark SUV.
Saturday’s robbery is the latest in a string of muggings and carjackings that have been reported throughout the local Town Hall Police District.
Robbery reports in the district were up 138% in the four weeks ending November 1 when compared to the same period last year. Robberies are up 12% year-to-date compared to 2019. However, most of the crimes have been reported away from Roscoe Village in Lincoln Park and south Lakeview.
Area Three detectives are investigating Saturday’s hold-up.
