Woman carjacked at Moody Bible Institute; suspect detained

One suspect is in custody after a 20-year-old woman was carjacked at gunpoint on a parking lot at Moody Bible Institute on the Near North Side yesterday evening. A second offender remains at large.

Two men approached the woman while displaying a handgun on the parking lot at 300 West Walton around 8:30 p.m., according to a CPD report. They ordered her to get out of her Honda CR-V and drove away.

But, they also took the woman’s phone and police were able to track pings from the device to locate her car about 30 minutes later in the Englewood neighborhood.

Police conducted a traffic stop on the car and took the lone occupant into custody, according to CPD.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
